A snapshot of my work as an architect and urbanist

I hold a bachelor’s in Architecture and Urbanism, a master’s in Architectural Design

Park House, West Leederville

I was invited to help design a house in West Leederville. The narrow, long site with difficult access was challenging, and the owners weren't sure about its feasibility. But being faced with a park and in a high position with nice potential views helped inform the concept. Due to its long, narrow shape, the house is divided into two sections, which also separate the family area and the bedrooms. The courtyard also brings natural light, ventilation and a beautiful view of the city skyline. It was built using SIP panels, extra insulation and cladding. Although it's not a passive house, it performs extremely well, keeping a very comfortable internal environment. Due to its openings, visual connections and open spaces, the house feels spacious and bright.

Waldorf School

I had an opportunity to design an extension of a Waldorf School in Brazil. I was already involved with its community, as my sons were studying there, and we started a plan to build new classrooms during the summer break. The project was broken into two stages. The first would be building new classrooms above an existing building, and the second would be a brand new building on an adjacent site. A challenging and exciting project from the building and structural perspective, with just a few weeks to finish it and all considerations about the anthroposophical pedagogy, which involves a lot of community consultation. A central open space connects the buildings and organises the circulation. A large multi-purpose undercover space alongside another open space operates as an arts, lunch and play space when the weather turns.

Federal University of São Paulo

Before moving to Australia in 2015, I was an architect and urbanist at the Federal University of Sao Paulo, working alongside a team of designers, engineers and consultants. I was part of the design team for a new campus in the City of Sao Paulo, the renovation of the central library, and a few smaller projects, such as researching labs and offices.

Guarapiranga Studio

A small studio located by a dam.

Cave visitor's structure project

Developed for the Tapagem Cave (Devil's Cave) in the Southwest of São Paulo. The project led by me consisted of multiple phases. From historical research to mapping, research and development of the best methods and strategies to develop and protect the cave environment to materials and construction systems.

Detailed map of the Cave. The total development of the cave is about 8.000m long and 165m in depth.

Studies of the impact of visitors

Materials and construction systems. Pultruded fibreglass was chosen due to its strength, lightweight properties, corrosion-resistance and durability. Small pieces can be carried and installed inside the cave with minimal impact. When removed, there would be just small drilled holes easily covered, or small plints easier to remove than heavy concrete or steel structures.
